Vinblastine
used
in the treatment of various cancers to slow or stop the growth of
cancer cells
Side Effects:
Nausea, vomiting, and muscle pain are common side effects.
Not eating before your treatment may help relieve vomiting.
Changes in diet such as eating several small meals or limiting
activity may help lessen some of these effects.
In some cases, drug therapy may be necessary to prevent or relieve
nausea and vomiting.
Temporary hair loss is another common side effect; normal hair growth
should return after treatment has ended.
Precautions:
This medication can lower your body's ability to fight an infection.
Notify your doctor if you develop any signs of an infection such
as fever, sore throat, rash, or chills.
Avoid getting near people with the flu.
Do not have immunizations/vaccinations without consent of your
doctor, and avoid contact with people who have recently received
oral polio vaccine.
Contraceptive (birth control) measures are recommended for use
in men and women while taking this medication.

Vinblastine
Injection: Colourless solution for injection into the
bloodstream.
Vinblastine is used for the treatment of cancers of the breast,
bladder, testicles and lymphomas.
It is important to tell your doctor if you are taking the medication
Phenytoin, or have chicken pox (or have recently been exposed to
someone who has chickenpox), shingles, gout, kidney or liver disease.
Tell your chemotherapy nurse immediately if you feel pain or burning
at injection site.

How it is given: Your doctor will decide how much vinblastine
you should have and when it will be given.
How it works Vinblastine slows or stops the growth of cancer cells
in your body.
Common side effects Neutropenia (decrease in the number of white
blood cells) A low number of white blood cells can make you more
likely to get infections.
You may begin to notice these changes about a week after starting
chemotherapy.
Less common side effects Neuromuscular and skeletal (muscles and
bones) Vinblastine may cause jaw pain, bone pain and muscle weakness.
Mucositis (mouth sores) Chemotherapy can cause sores in the mouth

Vinblastine
Vinblastine is a drug used to treat cancer.
You may have redness, pain, warmth, or swelling at the IV site.
Photosensitivity means that you may become more sensitive to the
effects of the sun, sun lamps, and tanning beds.

this drug therapy on future pregnancies.
In addition, a genetic counselor can review the potential risks
of problems in the fetus due to this medication if an exposure during
pregnancy has occurred.

Vinblastine binds to the microtubular proteins of the
mitotic spindle, leading to crystallization of the microtubule and
mitotic arrest or cell death.

In hospitalized patients the urine may be alkalinized, by addition
of sodium bicarbonate to the IV fluids, if tumour lysis is expected.
Severe jaw pain or parotid gland pain can occur within a few hours
of the first dose of vinblastine.
These gastrointestinal symptoms are seen especially when high doses
are used (e.g.,>20 mg) and are rare with doses <10 mg. Toxicity
and hematologic toxicity may be more severe in patients with severe
