Xalatan
used along with other medicines to treat glaucoma and other problems
related to high pressure within the eye.
Side Effects:
Blurred vision, burning and stinging, foreign body sensations, dry
eye, lid crusting or discomfort can occur. Report these problems
if they persist.
Notify your doctor if eye pain, red eye, itching, swelling or
increased brown coloration of the eye (iris area) occur.
Also, a darkening of the eyelid or eyelash may occur.
Very unlikely but report rapid vision changes, flu symptoms, chest
pain, rash or headaches.
Precautions:
Tell your doctor your medical history, especially of kidney or liver
diseases, any allergies, high blood pressure problems or contact
lens use.
This medication can slowly (years) change the color of the iris
(become browned).
If only one eye is being treated, only one eye might darken.
The consequences of this are unknown.
Consult your eye doctor.
If you develop an eye infection, trauma or have eye surgery, check
with your doctor about the continued use of the same dropper bottle.
This medication should be used only when clearly needed during
pregnancy. Discuss the risks and benefits with your doctor.
It is unknown if this drug is excreted into breast milk.
Caution is advised if breast-feeding.
Consult your doctor.

Latanoprost is a colorless to slightly yellow oil that is very
soluble in acetonitrile and freely soluble in acetone, ethanol,
ethyl acetate, isopropanol, methanol and octanol.
XALATAN Sterile Ophthalmic Solution (latanoprost ophthalmic solution)
is supplied as a sterile, isotonic, buffered aqueous solution
of latanoprost with a pH of approximately 6.7 and an osmolality
of approximately 267 mOsmol/kg.
The mechanism of increased pigmentation seems to be stimulation
of melanin production in melanocytes of the iris, with no proliferative
changes observed.
XALATAN Sterile Ophthalmic Solution is indicated for the reduction
of elevated intraocular pressure in patients with open-angle glaucoma
or ocular hypertension.

XALATAN Sterile Ophthalmic Solution is supplied as a
sterile, isotonic, buffered aqueous solution of latanoprost with
a pH of approximately 6.7 and an osmolality of approximately 267
mOsmol/kg.
The acid of latanoprost could be measured in aqueous humor during
the first 4 hours, and in plasma only during the first hour after
local administration.
The results from the preclinical program demonstrated that the increased
pigmentation is unlikely to be associated with proliferation of
melanocytes.
XALATAN Sterile Ophthalmic Solution is indicated for the reduction
of elevated intraocular pressure in patients with open-angle glaucoma
and ocular hypertension who are intolerant of other intraocular
pressure lowering medications or insufficiently responsive (failed
to achieve target IOP determined after multiple measurements over
time) to another intraocular pressure lowering medication.
